At the premiere of “American Dreamz” in Hollywood last night, once thing was perfectly obvious. Mandy Moore is no teen idol any more; she’s a poised, pretty 21-year-old who knows just where she’s going. Where? Straight to the top of the Hollywood heap, if she keeps picking films like “American Dreamz,” the Paul Weitz satire of the “American Idol” phenomenon, and roles like that of Sally Kendoo, the singer who will do anything to make it big. Moore insisted that going that far just isn’t in her nature; but it was sure fun to take on that ruthless persona for a little while.

She said, “I think it’s the fun and the challenge as an actress is to get a meaty part like this and sort of play against type. Sally is pretty far from who I am, so I definitely enjoyed it.”

Moore, who was joined by her boyfriend Zack Braff and most of her co-stars –Dennis Quaid,Jennifer Coolidge, Marcia Fay Harden,Shohreh Aghdashloo - for the bash, readily admitted that she is a huge fan of “American Idol,” and hopes that no one there takes the biting satire of “American Dreamz” the wrong way.
“I’m a fan of the show and I do watch every week but I think they work so hard overcoming all of these obstacles just to get on the show in the first place,” she said. “Every week they are judged in front of all of America and it must be overwhelming, all of the pressure, so I give them complete credit for getting up on stage. I think I would crumble under that kind of pressure!”

“I want to be doing this as long as I want to be doing this. When that day comes, when I’m done with the acting and singing thing, then I will pack it in and go home,” she laughed. “But, I’m not. I’m just 21, I don’t see that happening anytime soon.”
