Justin Timberlake says he’s well over the whole romance thing with ex-love Britney Spears as he opens up about his messy break-up with pop star Britney Spears in the new issue of GQ magazine, which hits stands July 25. He tells GQ that he wishes her well, and says people shouldn’t count her out yet because she’s “very clever.”
“I was in love with her from the start, I was infatuated with her from the moment I saw her.”

But despite having “loved that person half your life” he found the hardest thing after their split was seeing the girl he was so close to being disloyal. It was this frustration at Britney, he admits, that led him to write his hit revenge song ‘Cry me a River’. Justin — promoting his comeback album FutureSex/LoveSounds — admits that his heartbreak initially made him a playboy who pursued “the affections of many young females”.
“When we initially parted ways, I felt like she had a couple of opportunities to just sort of stick up for me, and she didn’t,” he tells the magazine. “Which is fine. But at that time, you know, I fought back.” Namely with a fairly bitter song about his ex.

Today, he remembers the Spears Years as “so high school,” compared with his “adult” relationship with now-girlfriend Cameron Diaz, 33.
“For me, this time around, it’s been important to stay, at least as much as I can, out of the limelight,” he says. “And I think that’s made it more enriching. I’ve received so much more from it by keeping it just between the two people it’s supposed to be between.” He thinks their relationship is still going strong because: “There’s no pretense about anything. It’s just a sort of coming together of two people.”
Asked what makes it work so well with Cameron, Justin said: “I think, — without being so ambiguous that I seem like an a**hole? There’s no pretence about anything. It’s just a sort of coming together of two people.”
Asked what he thinks about people saying he has actually “traded up” after Britney, he snapped: “Well, that’s a lot of ignorance.”

Timberlake’s second solo album, “FutureSex/LoveSounds,” will be released Sept. 12. His first single from the CD, “SexyBack,” began playing on U.S. radio outlets earlier this month. “I didn’t want to be that `guy from the boy band,’” says Timberlake, formerly of ‘N Sync. “I didn’t want to be that guy who was just, like, famous for being famous. I didn’t want to be the guy who dates girls in the tabloids.
“That’s why the (first) album was such a big deal for me. I had to fight harder for my respect, my credibility.”
