Sara Evans Quit Dancing With the Stars and Files For Divorce
Country singer and “Dancing With the Stars” contestant Sara Evans is alleging in divorce papers filed Thursday that her husband, Craig Schelske, cheated on her, drank excessively, was verbally and emotionally abusive, and often watched pornography in their house. The 35-year-old singer quit the ABC talent show yesterday, citing “personal reasons.”
In court papers Sara alleges verbal abuse, harassment, excessive consumption of alcohol and adultery. The filing also seeks custody of their children. Sara claims her husband has been storing personal ads looking for sex from the online site Craigslist on his personal computer. They also state that he “maintains many pornographic photographs” of himself, along with photographs showing him having sex with other women.
Sara Evans has been granted a temporary restraining order against Schelske, which prohibits him from harrassing Sara, being intoxicated in front of their children and taking them to Oregon. She was also granted temporary custody of the children and possession of the couple’s home in Franklin, Tennessee. Additionally, Sara is also asking for reasonable child support.
The couple married in 1993 and have three children ages 7, 3 and 2. Schelske, 43 and currently unemployed, ran for Congress as a Republican from Oregon’s 5th District in 2002. He is a native of Salem, Ore. He could not be reached for comment because there was no answer at a phone number for him Oregon.
As recently as Wednesday’s results show, however, the 35-year-old Sara Evans seemed in it for the long haul. In a video message posted Saturday on her Website, DancingWithSara.com, Evans was on her way to sing the national anthem at an Anaheim Ducks hockey game with her ballroom partner, Tony Dovolani, by her side.
“We just want to say thank you for all of your votes, and this week we’re having a great time learning the samba,” said Evans, who is up for Female Vocalist of the Year honors at the Country Music Association Awards and in June was voted the second-most beautiful woman in country music–behind only Faith Hill–by Country Weekly magazine.
