Brad Pitt may be lined up to replace Tom Cruise in the next Mission Impossible film, according to a British tabloid. According to their report, after ending their 14-year relationship with Tom, Paramount has now chosen Brad to play the lead in the next “Mission: Impossible” sequel. Tom was recently dropped by Paramount Studios dropped because of his “unacceptable conduct” in public and the lacklustre box office takings of the third film in the franchise.

One industry insider told Britain’s London Light newspaper: “Mission: Impossible IV will not include Tom’s character, agent Ethan Hunt. “They’re considering a brief mention, saying Hunt retired to live a safe life with his new wife. “They’re set on Brad taking over as a gutsy new head operative who puts together his own unique team of specialists.” Read more!

For her first live-action role since giving birth, Angelina Jolie will star in “A Mighty Heart” as Mariane Pearl — widow of murdered US journalist Daniel Pearl, who was killed by terrorists. The film will examine his reasons for being in Pakistan, his abduction and his wife’s attempts to find him. “I am delighted that Angelina Jolie will be playing my role in the adaptation of my book,” said Pearl.

Television producer Aaron Spelling, the man behind some of US TV’s most famous shows, has died Friday evening at the age of 83 at his Los Angeles home, wife Candy and son Randy at his side, according to publicist Kevin Sasaki. The guilty-pleasure producer, whose prime-time hits, including Charlie’s Angels, Dynasty and Beverly Hills, 90210, were often dismissed by critics, but more often embraced by audiences.

Spelling’s other hit series included “Love Boat,” “Fantasy Island,” “Burke’s Law,” “The Mod Squad,” “Starsky and Hutch,” “T.J. Hooker,” “Matt Houston,” “Hart to Hart” and “Hotel.” He kept his hand in 21st Century TV with the series “7th Heaven” and “Summerland.” He also produced more than 140 television movies.
The ABC pact lasted 18 years, until new owners ended the relationship. Spelling then helped do the same for two newer networks. He delivered hit series for Fox Broadcasting in “90210′’ and “Melrose Place'’ in the 1990s, and he provided popular programming for the WB Network well into the next decade with “7th Heaven'’ and “Charmed.'’ Read more!

His seventh wife, Victoria White O’Gara, is seeking to end their marriage after less than a year, citing irreconcilable differences in documents filed June 16 at Los Angeles Superior Court.
Michael Levine, spokesman for the 75-year-old former Paramount production chief, declined comment Tuesday.

Hip-hop star Missy Elliott is to play the lead role in a film chronicling her life, Universal Pictures has announced. The Elliott biopic film, which is untitled and in the development phase, will be produced by actor Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal through his company Tribeca Films along with Elliott’s manager Mona Scott.
The untitled project is in the development phase, studio spokeswoman Jennifer Chamberlain said Wednesday. Screenwriter Dianne Houston will pen the script.

Elliott, 34, who has won four Grammy awards during her career, is best known for her hit Get Ur Freak On. She has released six solo albums, including last year’s “The Cookbook.” Her production credits include tracks for Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake and Destiny’s Child. Read more!

Paramount Pictures has extended an 18-month option on the property to develop it as a vehicle for the Detroit rapper, Daily Variety reported Tuesday. The show debuted on CBS in 1957 and ran until 1963.
