The hotel heiress was presented with the track, but was not impressed with it, leaving it free for the girl-group made it a global chart-topper. She insists she was only played a rough version of the track which was very different to the single released by the US girl band, but she still wishes she’d snapped it up.

The now turned singer regrettably said: “I think I did hear the song, but not in the format that we all came to know and love. If I’d heard that, of course I’d have jumped at the chance.”

Dixie Chicks has canceled 14 locations on their current “Accidents & Accusations” tour, including Knoxville. The press release describes it as re-routing. But as Volunteer TV’s Whitney Daniel reports, many East Tennessean’s think it’s something else. The lackluster sales have forced the trio to cancel some shows or replace them with new dates and venues.
Kansas City, Houston, St. Louis, Memphis and Knoxville are among 14 cities no longer on the original schedule released in May, according to a revised itinerary posted Thursday on the Dixie Chick’s website. Other shows, including Nashville, Los Angeles, Denver and Phoenix, have been pushed back to later dates.

“This is a year where we weren’t sure what to expect,” the Grammy-winning group said in a statement last week. “We were prepared for a lot of things as we figure out this new phase of our career. Read more!

The Pussycat Dolls are to add a new group member as part of a new reality show in the US and a national casting call has already begun, inviting applications from females who can sing and dance with confidence. The Search for the Next Pussycat Doll - airing on new network The CW - will see the band expand from six members to seven with McG, Jimmy lovine and “America’s Next Top Model” producer Ken Mok.
The show will take place over eight one-hour long episodes. It will be a cross between “America’s Top Model” and “American Idol” and the winner will receive a spot in the pop group Pussycat Dolls, Daily Variety reported Wednesday.

The show does not have a title as of yet, but the first reality project to be produced by the newly formed Warner Horizon Television, is to air sometime during the 2006-07 season. Read more!

On Monday Kellie Pickler, bubbly blonde “American Idol” finalist became the fourth season-five finalist to sign a recording contract, inking a deal with Sony BMG’s Nashville-based country label BNA Records and Idol producer Simon Fuller’s 19 Recordings Limited. 19 Recordings is also home to fellow Idols Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia and Ruben Studdard.
First up for the 20-year-old North Carolina native, whom “Idol” judge Simon Cowell once deemed a “naughty little minx,” will be a single scheduled for release in September. Her debut album will arrive Nov. 14. Pickler is recording the album with producer Blake Chancey in between dates on the current American Idols Live tour.

Beyonce says in an upcoming issue of Giant Magazine that her manager/father, Matthew Knowles, didn’t know that she was creating her new album “B’Day.” The former DESTINY’S CHILD singer also says that she and her father often fought when she was younger and just emerging into stardom, particularly when “I’d say ‘no’ to something and he’d book it anyway. Then I’d have to do it because I’d look bad (if I didn’t),” Us Weekly reported Friday.
She spent months on her debut disc DANGEROUSLY IN LOVE and was left exhausted after
spending so much time in the studio. “It took a while for me and my dad to have an understanding, because he thinks everyone’s supposed to work like him,” she said. “When I turned 18 and started handling my business more, he went into shock.” Read more!

American rock band Weezer’s indefinite hiatus looks set to turn into a permanent split, according to comments made by front man Rivers Cuomo. In an interview with MTV News in the US, the bespectacled vocalist said that as it stands Weezer have finished. “For the moment we are done,” said Rivers. “And I’m not certain we’ll ever make a record again, unless it becomes really obvious to me that we need to do one.” He added: “All this year, I’ve been feeling pretty creative and excited, so I’ve been writing a lot. I don’t know what’ll happen with these songs - if anything - I just sort of write them and I can’t stop. I certainly don’t see them becoming Weezer songs, and I don’t really see the point of a solo career. So we’ll just have to wait and see.” Read more!

A Southern California rock band called Supernova has filed a complaint against Mark Burnett’s CBS reality show “Rock Star: Supernova,” saying it had the name first. They has filed a complaint alleging unfair competition and trademark infringement against Mark Burnett Productions, CBS and the other minds behind the competition show Rock Star: Supernova. Lee, former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke and former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted are using the on-camera opportunity to choose the next hot, yet appropriately surly, young thing to front their new band.

“Our clients believe they have the superior right on the mark Supernova,” said the band’s attorney, John Mizhir, adding the band “has a long-standing common-law trademark right to the mark.” Read more!

Syd Barrett, who founded Pink Floyd but disappeared to live as a recluse 30 years ago, has died, the band said Tuesday. He was 60. Alan Barrett said of his 60-year-old brother: “He died peacefully at home. There will be a private family funeral in the next few days.”
Pink Floyd issued a statement saying: “The band are naturally very upset and sad to learn of Syd Barrett’s death. Syd was the guiding light of the early band line-up and leaves a legacy which continues to inspire.”

A spokeswoman for the band said Barrett died several days ago, but she did not disclose the cause of death. Barrett had suffered from diabetes for years. Read more!

Elton John will perform at the third Fashion Rocks concert, which will kick off New York Fashion Week in September joining other superstar acts including Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Kanye West, Bon Jovi, the Black Eyed Peas, Jamie Foxx, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Nelly Furtado, Daddy Yankee, the Pussycat Dolls, Rihanna and Scissor Sisters.
Proceeds will benefit the singer’s AIDS foundation and will be held Sept. 7 at Radio City Music Hall. A two-hour special will air the following evening on CBS at 9 p.m.

Fashion segments will be included in the show. “Fashion and music have always been inextricably linked,” said Richard D. Beckman, president of Conde Nast Media Group and an executive producer of the show, in a statement Thursday. Read more!

The season five Idol runner-up was forced to skip the opening nights of the American Idols Live! tour due to “severe bronchitis and laryngitis,” promoters announced just hours before the start of Wednesday’s sold-out show in Manchester, New Hampshire.
“I am disappointed and I am sorry to disappoint my fans who will be attending the start of the American Idols Live tour,” McPhee said in a written statement. However, she said, “I need to follow my doctor’s orders to recuperate and reunite with the rest of the Idols.”

Rapper Lil’ Kim, the diminutive rapper known for her raunchy lyrics and sexually provocative attire, is now home from prison fter serving nearly 10 months for perjury and, in typical fashion. She was sent to prison for lying to a grand jury about a shootout outside a New York radio station and released more than two months early for good behavior.
Lil’ Kim — whose real name is Kimberly Jones — emerged from the jail looking glamorous wearing a low-cut white top and flashy sunglasses, the diminutive star clutched a bouquet of flowers as she greeted fans before stepping into a shiny Rolls Royce.

“There she come!” shouted a fan as Lil’ Kim — wearing sunglasses, a white outfit, and holding a bouquet of white roses and a mylar “Welcome Home” balloon — followed her entourage out of the Arch Street entrance and into the back seat of the Rolls, which has a base price of $350,000. Read more!

After three years together, pop balladeer Josh Groban and actress January Jones (American Wedding) have split after dating for three years, his rep, Liz Rosenberg, tells PEOPLE. Other than saying, “They remain friends,” Rosenberg had no further comment. Jones’s rep, Dominique Appel, also had no comment.

Jones, who previously dated Ashton Kutcher, has recently been spotted with her SWEDISH AUTO co-star LUKAS HAAS at a Las Vegas, Nevada, nightclub.
